Lindsey Sonn | CrossFit Coach

I’ve been coaching CrossFit for about 2 years. I started my coaching experience at Mountain Strength CrossFit in Winchester, MA.

With zero experience, I applied to an online ad that asked for experienced coaches and figured I’d let them figure out how they were going to say no. Needless to say, I was lucky enough to begin coaching at MSCF and very shortly after, began coaching at CrossFit Route 1 (where I was an athlete). Both gyms taught me so much as a coach very quickly – MSCF was more laid-back and focused on GPP, while CFRTE1 was more competitive and focused on more complex skills and competitive style workouts. I feel that I was at a huge advantage in my pursuit to be a better coach given that I experienced both styles simultaneously.

I have not only coached CrossFit and SWEAT-style classes, but I have also been offering personal training sessions, 1-on-1 Prep Course sessions, and nutrition services. I have also programmed and led a 6-week female only barbell class, which met 2x per week and have led a highly attended and well-regarded 2-hour Snatch workshop.

I am SO excited and grateful to be working at Andover CrossFit. I cannot wait to see what’s to come for us all!

Coaching Philosophy:

I want everyone to give their 100% every time they come to a session – whatever that 100% is for them that day. I want my athletes to realize that their available physical, mental, and emotional energy each day is their driving force behind their efforts. I pride myself in being able to read people to see what they have available to give that day. I think one of my strengths is knowing when to push someone a little harder (or out of their comfort zone) and when to let them safely “go through the motions” because they aren’t fully present in the session.

The driving force behind my coaching is to get people to enjoy training and fitness and do so in a safe and healthy way. I want every single session to be fun and allow the individual to leave in a better place physically and mentally than they came in. Of course I get excited (maybe too excited) when someone PR’s a lift or the new skill finally “clicks”, but most important to me is that they are finding enjoyment and happiness from their experience.

Read people’s minds – for so many reasons…

Listening to music in the sunshine.

Tooooo many fascinating choices in this world! I think Salar de Uyuni in Bolivia to take in the view – because it appears to be stunningly beautiful and is possibly the only place I’d want to be at for only one day.

My mom. I know it’s cliche but I. Don’t. Care. I have never met anyone who has kept such a positive mindset towards every single thing that has happened in life. She doesn’t ever let me wallow for too long and is always forcing me to look for the reason behind something happening, or for me to at least look to how I can adapt to it rather than be a victim. I try my hardest to mirror this.
